Faith Beyond the Tent

“For we walk by faith, not by sight.”
2 Corinthians 5:7

A voice called. “Abraham, get up and go outside.”

Abraham stirred and listened. The day had been hard, and discouragement was closer than joy. Still, the Patriarch felt the stirring in his heart and recognized the voice of the One who could be trusted at all times.

“I will, Lord,” he whispered and got up.

“Where are you going?” his wife asked surprised, as she looked up.

“Just need to be outside,” he mumbled. Without saying another word, he opened the tent and stepped into the night.

Outside, wonder overtook him. The sky, bright with stars, beckoned him. The overwhelming beauty wrapped around his soul like a song. How great was God.

“Abraham,” God’s voice rang out, clear and strong. “As the heavens are high above the earth, so are my thoughts and plans above yours. Step out of the tent of your life and lift your eyes. This is faith: stepping out even when you cannot see the whole path.”

Abraham burst out in worship. “Lord, I understand. I have lived in the tent of self, but You call me into Your world and to Your tent that stretches far, even beyond the uttermost parts of the earth.”

If Abraham could speak to us today, he might say: “Dear child of God, lift your eyes to the heavens. Do not be trapped in your own affairs. To walk with God, you must see as He sees.”

Lord, give me the courage to step out in faith, trusting You even when I cannot see the path ahead.
