Computer Glitch

“… Having no hope, and without God in the world.”
Ephesians 2:12

I knew what my next article would be all about. It would be called, “Why Faith in God is for the Weak.”

Great title. Heartfelt and sure to satisfy my atheistic friends.

So, I set out to work and gave it my best. After two hours, I had an article so strong it would even convince the apostles of Jesus to make a career change.

Now the edit.

Then the unthinkable happened. My screen went dark. Everything disappeared, just like that. I hadn’t saved it to the cloud. I never bothered. Things like this happened to other people, not to me. But now they did.

I sat in stunned silence, staring at the dark, shiny reflection of my own face on the monitor of my computer.

Was that me?

I looked old. Worn. Tired … even sick. Never realized I looked like that.

Suddenly the computer stirred and flickered. The cursor came back on, but not my work. Instead, words appeared on my screen. I stared at it in disbelief. Did I read correctly?

You are without God in this world.

I wanted to scream, but could not. A glitch? Had somebody hacked my computer? My hair stood on end, my heart pounded. The words were cutting me like a two-edged sword.

You are without God in this world…

I knew I was, and all of a sudden it was a terrifying idea. I was … scared.

That Sunday I found myself in a small chapel, and surrendered. Then there was joy, unspeakable joy. How come I had not seen it before?

The Apostles didn’t make a career-switch, but I sure did.

Jesus, will You help me to have my mind stayed on You and to walk with You all the time?
