The Rock That Follows
“I will make a way in the wilderness and streams in the desert.”
Isaiah 43:19
How hot was the sun, and how terrible my thirst. Had it really been days since I tasted water? It felt like a lifetime, and what I had drunk had been dirty and bitter. But now, even that foul-tasting, brackish liquid was nowhere to be found. My lips split with pain, my canteen was empty, and my heart carried nothing but questions.
Had God forgotten me?
Then, beyond a ridge, I heard it: a faint trickle. A spring bursting from the rock, cold and pure, as if prepared for me alone. I fell to my knees and stared in wonder at the miracle before me. Then I drank deeply as my tears of gratitude mingled with the stream.
In that moment I understood: God’s promises are like this spring. They never shrink in drought. They overflow. The greater my need, the greater His supply. He is always there.
Even in the wilderness of life, the Rock follows us still, Christ Himself, the fountain that never runs dry.
Prayer:
Jesus, help me to believe that with You I can cross any desert on my way to Your Promised Land. You are the Water of Life, and You will always go with me.
